THOUSAND OAKS, CA – The St. John Fisher University men's volleyball team completed their trip to California on Saturday night with a contest against Aurora University. Despite dropping the first set, the Cardinals secured the next three to earn the 3-1 victory.
 
After losing the first set 27-25, Fisher was down 6-3 early in the second. But a 5-0 run helped them get back in the game and claim an advantage. The Spartans fought back to put Fisher on the ropes at 24-22, but back-to-back kills by Griffin Stella and Jake Baker evened the score, and a pair of errors by Aurora allowed the Cardinals to even the match at 1-1.
 
In the third set, Fisher was down 7-3, strong play helped the team even the score back up at 18-18. Kills by Sonepith Keoviengsamay and Baker, were catalysts to a 7-2 run in the end that helped them take the third set 25-21. A the fourth set got underway, Fisher was down 3-1, but quickly regained control with kills by Ian Rauh, and mistakes by the opposition. The Spartans showed their resilience by keeping the set close until the Cardinals used points by Gavin Newman and Stella to close out the set and match.
 
Fisher is back in action on Friday, March 15 when they host Nazareth University at the Manning and Napier Varsity Gym. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
