Cardinals Earn Victories Over Penn College And Scranton

SCRANTON, PA – The St. John Fisher University wrestling team had a pair of duals against Penn College and Scranton University. The Cardinals collected both wins starting with a 37-9 win over the Wildcats and then a 33-18 victory over the Royals.
 
Fisher 37 – Penn College 9
The competition started with Daniel Parkulo (125) securing a 22-9 major decision to put the Cardinals up 4-0. Derek Bernardino (133) and Alex Samson (141) followed it up with wins of their own, starting with a Bernardino pin at 0:50 and Samson 10-7 decision. After dropping the 149-pound bout, Fisher secured five consecutive victories. Paul Lichter (157), Jeremy Devine (165) and Nathan Coon (184) all won by technical fall. Ryleigh Duryee (174) earned his win by way of a 13-7 decision and then Brayden Vandenberg (197) secured a pin at 1:52 to put the team in front 37-3. Despite a heavyweight loss, the Cardinals earned the 37-9 dual victory.
 
Fisher 33 – Scranton 18
In the match against the Royals, Parkulo kicked it off with another major decision in, this time with a score of 10-2. After falling behind 6-4 after the 133-pound bout, the Cardinals went on a run of three straight wins starting with Alex Samson tallying a 19-5 major decision. Joshua Maslyn (149) followed it up with a 2-0 decision, and Colden Hardy (157) added a win by pinfall in 0:38. Scranton reclaimed the lead at 18-17, but Nathan Coon (184) got the team back with a 17-1 technical fall. Vandenberg and Burns capped off the win with a technical fall and pin respectively.
 
Up next for Fisher is the Mideast Futures Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 25. The competition is slated to start at 10:30 a.m.
