ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The St. John Fisher women's basketball team beat the Rochester Institute of Technology 68-61 behind 18 points from Presleigh Brunner and 17 from Sidney Tomasso in the final game of the 2024 Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout on Saturday night at RIT's Clark Gymnasium.
The Cardinals won their third consecutive game and improved to 5-3, while RIT fell to 2-3. Tomasso, who scored 36 points and grabbed 18 rebounds over two games in the tournament, was named the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout MVP. Brunner garnered all-tournament honors after shooting 65% (15 of 25) from the field and scoring 34 points over Fisher's wins on Thursday and Saturday.
After falling behind 10-3 early, the Cardinals settled in and used a 16-2 run to end the first quarter with a 19-12 lead. They had firm control the rest of the way, leading by double digits for most of the second, third and fourth quarters. Fisher had its largest lead (21 points) after a pair of Kelly Moravec free throws early in the final quarter.
Brunner, who shot 8 of 13 from the field, tied her season high for points. Tomasso shot 5 of 16 overall (4 of 10 from three) and pulled down 11 rebounds as part of her second double-double of the year. The reigning Empire 8 Player of the Year has scored more than 15 points in each of the seven games she's played in this season.
Katie Moravec added 14 points and recorded a team-high four assists. Hannah Ferguson had nine points to go with five rebounds.
