Burkhart Records Sixth Shutout, Tamburino Scores Again As Men's Soccer Beats SUNY Poly 2-0

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – St. John Fisher fifth-year goalkeeper Christian Burkhart recorded his Empire 8-leading sixth shutout of the season in the Cardinals' 2-0 victory over SUNY Poly on Wednesday night at Growney Stadium.

The Cardinals, who've won two of their last three games, improved to 4-4-4 overall (3-1-2 Empire 8). SUNY Poly dropped to 6-3-2 (1-2-2 Empire 8) and suffered its first loss sine Sept. 21.

The Cardinals opened the scoring at the 32:11 mark in the first half when senior forward Riley Rease scored his first goal of the season on an assist from fifth-year senior midfielder Joey Avallone. It was Rease's 17th career goal and first since the Empire 8 Championship game last November against Elmira.

Avallone, second on the Cardinals in total points (6), tallied another assist about 18 minutes into the second half on Jack Tamburino's goal. Tamburino, who's scored in each of Fisher's last three games, leads the Cardinals in goals (4) and total points (8).

The multi-point effort was Avallone's second this season (he scored two goals in a win over Elmira on Sept. 14). He recorded his first two collegiate assists in Wednesday's contest.

In his seventh career shutout, Burkhart made four saves while facing four shots. He has made 43 saves over 12 games, the third-most in the Empire 8.
