Ryan Brown's Penalty Kick Goal Pushes Men's Soccer Past Brockport

PITTSFORD, N.Y.- The St. John Fisher University men's soccer team improved to 5-4-4 on the season with a 1-0 over SUNY Brockport in their first match-up as conference opponents. The Cardinals, who've won two straight games and three of their last four, moved to 4-1-2 in Empire 8 conference play.

Both defenses held strong for the majority of the game. With three yellow cards and 27 total fouls, the game saw plenty of back-and-forth physical action. In the 79th minute, after sustained Cardinal offensive pressure, a foul was drawn in the penalty box, leading to the the lone goal of the match. Fifth-year defender Ryan Brown found the back of the net on a penalty kick for his second goal of the season and career. The Cardinals held the lead from there.

Brockport tallied twelve total shots in the game, including seven on goal. St. John Fisher fifth-year goalkeeper Christian Burkhart recorded his second straight shutout and seventh of the season, the most in the Empire 8. His seven saves marked a career high.
