Grimm, Wania Lead Women's Soccer To Fourth Win In A Row

ALBANY, N.Y. – Forwards Riley Grimm and Madelyn Wania had multi-point performances as the St. John Fisher University women's soccer team beat Russell Sage 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the ACP Athletic Complex. 

The Cardinals improved to 7-3-1 overall (5-1 Empire 8) and won their fourth consecutive game. Russell Sage dropped to 2-5-3 (1-2-1 E8). 

Match Notes

  • The Cardinals kept pace with first-place Brockport (9-0-1, 5-0 E8) in the league standings with the victory. 

  • Grimm got the Cardinals out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals early in the first half. She scored her first at the 2:53 mark and her second at the 4:28 mark. 

  • Grimm now leads the Cardinals and is tied for second in the Empire 8 with six goals. 

  • Grimm, a senior, has scored four goals in the Cardinals' last four contests. She has nine points in that span. 

  • Wania, the Empire 8's points leader, had the assist on both of Grimm's tallies. 

  • Wania now leads the Empire 8 in both points (19) and assists (9). She has recorded at least one point in all but four of the Cardinals' 11 games this season. 

  • Wania has recorded at least one point in four straight games. 

  • Wania scored her fifth goal of the season in the second half to seal the win for the Cardinals. 

  • Midfielder Emma Spelman recorded her sixth assist of the season on Wania's goal. The senior has tallied assists in back-to-back games. 

  • Sophomore keeper Sofia Pantoja made two saves and earned her fifth win of the season.
