PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team returned home Tuesday for their first home game since early November. Despite an early deficit, the Cardinals were able to claim an Empire 8 conference victory over the Wolves, 89-70. Fisher now have a record of 9-5 overall and 5-0 in conference competition.
The Cardinals fell behind 21-5 with 14:32 on the clock, but a mid-range jumper by
Akinlana Popoola helped stop the bleeding and turn the game around. A few minutes later
Jack Foley knocked down a three to cut the deficit to single digits and then with 6:37 to play in the first-half,
Daniel Cook brought the score to 29-28. A last second half-court three by
Matt Lettko put the Cardinals ahead going into the break, and was a catalyst for the rest of the game.
Coming out of halftime,
Cole Thompson made a layup to put the team up 40-37, and they began to slowly add to their lead. With 10:32 to play in the game, a dunk by
Brad Fowler gave Fisher a double digit lead for the first time and a three-pointer in the final minute by
Matt Panara, secured the 89-70 win.
Cook led the team with a 25 point, 13 rebound double-double. He added four assists and three steals.
Connor Recore added 18 points of his own to go along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Foley was also a double-digit scorer with 11 points.
