ELMIRA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team were on the road on Saturday and completed a weekend sweep of their Empire 8 opponents, knocking off Elmira College 108-95. The Cardinals now move 8-5 on the season and 4-0 against conference opposition.
Fisher jumped out to an early 12-4 lead thanks to makes by
Jack Foley,
Daniel Cook and
Cole Thompson. Elmira kept it close, but at the 13:36 mark, the Cardinals began to pull away. A
Max Schneider three-pointer put the team in front 22-12, before a three-point play by
Connor Williams pushed the lead to 18.
Joe Morrell later knocked down a three of his own and made the score 33-12. The Soaring Eagles stabilized and cut their deficit to single digits with three minutes to play, but the Cardinals reclaimed a 54-39 lead going into the break.
As the second-half continued, the Cardinals pushed their lead to as high as 25 points with 14:46 remaining. Elmira continued to push back, but the two units traded baskets throughout the half and Fisher was able to secure the 108-95 victory.
The Cardinals had four players finish with double-digit scoring. Cook and
Brad Fowler each had 18 points, with Cook adding five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Foley tallied 14 points on 4-for-9 shooting from behind the arc. McRoy contributed 12 points and five rebounds.
Fisher returns home on Tuesday, Jan. 9 for a matchup against Keuka College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
