Cardinals Outlast Gators At Home, 97-90

PTITSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team defeated Russell Sage College at home on Friday, 97-90. It took a big second half for the Cardinals to keep pace and outlast the Gators, outscoring them 60-57. Fisher now holds an 11-7 record and 7-2 in conference play.

The game started with a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, but layups by Matt Lettko and Joshua Lopez, along with a three by Darrien Grady, pushed the Cardinals in front 37-28 with two minutes to go. As the first half came to a close, Fisher led by four.

The Cardinals continued to extend their lead, using a Brad Fowler layup to move ahead 54-44. Despite the deficit, the Gators did not give in and fought back to cut the Fisher lead to just four points with under four minutes to play. Fisher was able to knock down 9-of-11 free-throws down the stretch to secure the gain and earn a 97-90 victory.

Daniel Cook scored 22 points to lead the scoring and added six rebounds and four blocks. Lettko added 10 points of his own to go along with eight rebounds and three assists. Fowler and Connor Williams were the top scorers off the bench, collecting 12 and 11 respectively.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 27 at home when they welcome Hartwick College to campus. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
