PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team were at home on Saturday to take on Hartwick College. The Cardinals were able to overcome early mistakes to knock off the Hawks, 96-71. They move their record to 12-7 overall and 8-2 in Empire 8 conference play.
Fisher fell behind 15-9, but three-pointers by
Connor Williams and
Cole Thompson helped stop the Hawks momentum and put Fisher back in front 20-19 with 11:40 to play. The team began to extend their lead with layups by
Daniel Cook putting the score at 30-21. Hartwick held off Fisher, but a three pointer by
Jack Foley gave the Cardinals their first double-digit lead of the afternoon. At the end of the first-half, the led 47-36.
To start the second frame, the Cardinals began to pull way starting with a layup by Foley and Cook. Thompson knocked down a three-pointer with 13:06 to play to put the Cardinals in front by 21 points. The Hawks were unable to stop the Fisher offense in the second half, being outscored 49-35 and the Cardinals walked away with a 96-71 victory.
Cook led the way with 27 points while adding nine rebounds, four assists and five blocks. Foley shot 3-for-4 from three for 13 points, and grabbing six rebounds. Thompson was a weapon off the bench with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field and 3-for-4 from behind the arc.
The Cardinals are back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 30 as they head to Keuka College for a meeting with the Wolves. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
