CLEVELAND, OH– The St. John Fisher University wrestling team went 2-1 at the Dr. Si Ostrach Duals on the campus of Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, beating Hiram College and Waynesburg but falling in a close matchup with the host school.
St. John Fisher 55, Hiram College 0
The Cardinals shut out the Terriers, winning in every division. The Cardinals won three of their matchups by pinfall, with freshman Daniel Parkulo, freshman Brandon Vandenberg, and freshman Jackson Burns all winning by fall. Grad student Alex Samson and freshman Jeremy Devine won their fights by technical fall.
St. John Fisher 37, Waynesburg 12
Vandenberg and Samson both won by pinfall as the Cardinals won their second contest of the day, while freshman Paul Lichter won his 156 lb. matchup with a 16-12 majority decision. Senior Otto Davidson beat Jacob Wilson at 165 lbs with a close 13-10 victory by decision.
Case Western Reserve University 20, St. John Fisher University 19
The Cardinals were handed their first head-to-head defeat of the season against the host Spartans in an extremely close contest. Although the Cardinals won six of the 10 contests, Case Western was able to squeak out the victory due to two victories by pinfall that helped increase their score. Derek Bernardino, Samson, Joshua Maslyn, Lichter, Vandenburg, and Jackson Burns had the victories for Fisher.
