PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University wrestling team were at home on Wednesday and celebrated their senior before a big victory over Penn State Behrend. The Cardinals took a big lead early and cruised to a 37-9 win. They now have an undefeated 6-0 record on the season.
Daniel Parkulo kicked things off by going the distance and earned a 4-2 victory by decision in the 125-pound match.
Derek Bernardino continued that momentum with a 15-1 major decision win to put the team ahead 7-0.
Alex Samson celebrated his senior moment with a 16-1 technical fall just seconds into the second period.
Joshua Maslyn (149-pounds) and
Paul Lichter (157) each earned wins by technical falls of their own and the Cardinals took an impressive 22-0 advantage.
After dropping back-to-back matches,
Nathan Coon got Fisher back on track with a nail-biting 13-12 decision.
Braydon Vandenberg and
Jackson Burns closed out the night with back-to-back wins by pinfall. Vandenberg secured his halfway through the second period, and Burns achieved the feat towards the end of the match.
Up next for the Cardinals is a trip to Case Western Reserve for the Dr. Si Ostrach Duals. Fisher will take on Hiram College, Waynesburg University and the host Spartans. Competition starts at 11:00 a.m.
