SPRINGFIELD, OH – The St. John Fisher University men's volleyball team won its second match of the season on Saturday, sweeping Penn State-Altoona three sets to none on the campus of Wittenberg University.
The Cardinals took the first set with relative ease, 25-10, never trailing.
The second set was tougher, as they had to come back from an early 2-1 deficit before taking the lead with a four-point run to make it 5-2. Even though Fisher never lost the lead after that, Altoona hung in through most of the set, narrowing Fisher's lead to one on a few occasions but never tying as the Cardinals took the 25-19 victory.
Finally, Fisher won the last set, 25-16, with Jimmy Roberts notching the match-winning kill.
Senior Jake Baker led the Cardinals in kills, with nine, while Tyler Cohen and Ian Rauh had five each. Evan Ingerick led the team with 20 assists, while Trace La Robardiere had seven digs.
The Cardinals' second game of the day, against Wisconsin Lutheran, was canceled. Instead, their next match will be on Friday, Jan. 19, when they host Houghton University for this year's home opener at Manning & Napier Varsity Gym. Gametime is set for 5:00 P.M.
