Weekend Preview: Men’s Basketball Prepare For Games against Houghton and Utica

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team continues its Empire 8 schedule over the coming days, hosting Houghton University on Friday before traveling to Utica next Tuesday. 
 
The Cardinals are 9-5 overall, 5-0 in Empire 8 games and are currently riding a three-game win streak. 
 
Tip-off for Friday's home game is scheduled for 7:30, while Tuesday's road game is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. as well.
 
Here's what you need to know ahead of the games.
 
Last Time Out
 
The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team returned home Tuesday for their first home game since early November. Despite an early deficit, the Cardinals were able to claim an Empire 8 conference victory over the Wolves, 89-70. Fisher now have a record of 9-5 overall and 5-0 in conference competition.
 
Daniel Cook led the team with a 25 point, 13 rebound double-double. He added four assists and three steals. Connor Recore added 18 points of his own to go along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Foley was also a double-digit scorer with 11 points.
 
The Opposition
 
Houghton hold a record of 4-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play. They are 3-3 in their last six games with wins over Hartwick College, John Jay College and Alfred University. The Highlanders are led by Jajuan Preaster who is averaging 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Preston Thomas is a top scorer with 16.1 points, while added 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
 
The Pioneers have gotten off to a hot start, maintaining a record of 10-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play. They are on a five game win streak, and coming off an overtime win at Nazareth University. Utica is led by a trio of double digit scorers including Justice Brantley who tallies 15.0 points per game. Dayion Thompson adds 13.4 points per game and Damien Call recorded 12.7 points.

The Cardinals sit atop the Empire 8 in a variety of statistical categories. They are no. 1 in average points per game with 85.2, field goals made with 451, field goal percentage at 50.3%, three point percentage at 37.2% and number one in rebounds per game with 42.1 per game.
 
Player To Watch
 
Jack Foley has continued to lead the team in three-point shooting. He is second in the conference with 34 made threes and in three-point percentage at 49.3%. This season he has knocked down a three in every game he has played in and has six games with three or more made threes. Foley is averaging 10.6 points per game, while adding 4.4 rebounds per game and 1.4 assists per game.
