PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Two goals from Audrey Grieb propelled the St. John Fisher University field hockey team to victory on Saturday in their Empire 8 opener against Sage College.
The forward opened the scoring with a goal just under four minutes into the game and then added her second just a few minutes later to put the team ahead 2-0. Senior Sam Choate assisted the first goal, while freshman Mary Kate McPhee earned her first collegiate point with an assist on the second.
After the Gators came back to even the score at 2-2, Choate scored in the final moments of the third quarter to give the team the lead and eventually, the victory.
Senior Sophia Trozzi had 13 saves on the day, while fellow senior Rileigh Luste had two defensive stops.
The win increases Fisher's all-time record against the Gators to 5-0.
Now 1-0 to start conference play, the Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Keuka College. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
