PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team were at home for the start of the RIT Invitational and they faced off against the Tigers to kick-off the event. The Cardinals managed to fend off the opposition and earn a strong 3-0 win to move to 2-6 on the year.

Fisher jumped out to a 4-1 lead, before trading points with RIT. The Tigers mounted their comeback and moved ahead 10-9, but a kill by Kaylene Koble and ace by
Brooke Segars gave the Cardinals a lead they did not relinquish the rest of the way. RIT made it interesting down the stretch, but key points by
Ana Gutman,
Kristen McIntosh and Segars helped the team secure the set one victory.

In set two, it was RIT that jumped in front 4-1, but four straight errors by the Tigers helped put Fisher back in front. The two units remained close throughout the frame, but a 10-1 run by the Cardinals put them ahead 21-13, and a pair of RIT errors pushed Fisher in front 2-0. In the third, and what proved to be the final, set of the afternoon, Fisher capitalized on mistakes by the opposition to go on two separate 4-0 runs to jump ahead 9-6. An ace by Segars and kills by
Reilly Morrow, McIntosh, and Noble helped keep the team in front. A late run was withstood by the Cardinals and they earned the 3-0 sweep.

Delayne Young led the team with nine kills and McIntosh followed with eight of her own. Morrow recorded 21 assists and
Kiera Hartpence led the way defensively with 16 digs.

The Cardinals continue to compete in the RIT Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16 when they go to RIT to take on Oswego state at 11 a.m. and the University of Rochester at 3 p.m.
