PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Eight Cardinals and both Track and Field teams were honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as they released their yearly All-Academic Athletes and Teams.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either the indoor or outdoor seasons. To qualify for the team honor, the team cumulative GPA must be above a 3.1.
The men's team finished with a total GPA of 3.33 and the women's side excelled with a GPA of 3.62.
Sean Cochrane is a Finance major and competed primarily in the high-jump. In the AARTFC Outdoor Championships he took second in the event with a height of 2.01m and just missed out on a chance to compete in the NCAA Championships.
Fellow high jumped,
Bryant DePaull, is also honored and is a Criminology/Criminal Justice major. The first year student-athlete competed in the long jump as well taking sixth place in the Empire 8 Indoor and Outdoor Championships. For the high-jump his best jump of 1.97m came in the E8 Indoor Championships, where he took home second-place.
Ivan Lopez-Testillano is an Economics major and competes primarily in the triple jump. He competed in the NCAA Indoor Championship this season, while taking third in the AARTFC Outdoor Championship as well.
Matthew Stasiw impressed in the long-jump this year and in the classroom impressed as a Finance Major. In the E8 Indoor Championship, Stasiw used his best jump of the season (7.09m) to take first-place in the competition.
On the women's side, the Cardinals saw four athletes earn recognition for what they did in the classroom.
Veronica Duel is a Biology major that impressed in the long-jump this season. She claimed second place in the Empire 8 Outdoor Championship with a season best jump of 5.70m.
Fellow jumper,
Michaela Kurbs, is a nursing major and also saw success in a variety of events. In the E8 Outdoor Championship she claimed the no. 1 spot in the 4x100 and long jump, was top-5 in the 100m dash and top-10 in the triple-jump and 200m.
Ciarra Franz is a nursing major and competes in the 100m hurdles. After taking first-place in the Empire 8 Outdoor championship in the 100m hurdles, Franz then took home a no. 5 finish in the AARTFC Championship.
Makenna King is a throwing, competing in all throwing events. In the classroom, she is pursuing a degree in Mathematics and Inclusive Adolescence Education. King took advantage of a last chance meet, taking first-place in the shot-put and discus throw in order to secure a trip to the NCAA Championship.
