UTICA, NY – The St. John Fisher Women's Track and Field team traveled to Utica, NY as they competed in day two of the 2023 Outdoor Track & Field Empire 8 Championships. With the conclusion of day two, the Cardinals finished second overall, after scoring 199 points.
On the Track
Starting the day on the track, the team of
Michaela Kurbs,
Samantha Shea,
Zhane Lettsome, and
Ciarra Franz competed in the 4x100m relay. The team ran 47.71, placing first overall and setting both the meet and facility record. With their performance, the relay team moves up to fourth in the region.
Next on the track, multiple Cardinals competed in the 1500m.
Caitlin Voloshen ran 5:10.24, placing sixth overall and scoring one point.
Lauren DeMichele was neck and neck with Voloshen, running 5:10.41 and placing seventh overall.
Riley Jameson ran 5:18.01, placing eighth overall. Allison List ran 5:24.21, placing ninth overall.
Sabrina Antonini took tenth overall, running 5:28.54.
Right after, Fisher competed in the finals of the 100m hurdles. Franz ran 14.45, placing first overall and scoring 10 points.
Lily Rexford finished sixth overall, scoring one point for Fisher.
In the 100m, Franz ran 12.26, placing second overall. Shea ran 12.33, finishing third overall. Taking fourth, Lettsome ran 12.38. Kurbs ran 12.52, finishing fifth overall. Between the four runners, 20 points were scored.
Following the 100m, Fisher competed in the 800m.
Olivia Grinnell ran 2:25.99, finishing fifth overall. Voloshen ran 2:27.04, finishing sixth overall. Between the two runners, three points were scored.
Next on the track, Fisher competed in the 400m hurdles.
Hayly Fredrickson ran 1:08.69, finishing fourth and scoring four points for Fisher.
Lily Rexford ran 1:12.37, finishing seventh overall.
Right after, the Cardinals competed in the 200m. Shea placed first overall, running 25.35. Lettsome took third overall, running 25.77. Grace Wright ran 26.39, finishing fifth overall. Taking sixth, Kurbs ran 26.43. In total, the Cardinals scored 19 points in the 200m.
In the 5000m, DeMichele ran 18:40.33, taking second overall and scoring eight points.
Riley Corey ran 19:11.19, finishing seventh overall. Finishing eighth,
Brigid McGee ran 19:21.43.
Ending the day on the track, the team of H. Fredrickson, G. Wright, E. Wright, and Shea competed in the 4x400m relay. The team ran 4:12.52, taking second overall and scoring eight points.
On the Field
First on the field, Fisher competed in the shot put.
Makenna King threw 12.00m, placing second overall.
Lyndsay O'Brien threw 11.56m, taking fourth overall.
Erin McGuinness threw 11.45m, taking fifth overall. Between the three throwers, 14 points were scored.
Next, in the triple jump, Kurbs jumped 10.26m, placing ninth overall.
In the high jump,
Claudia Vogel jumped 1.57m, finishing third overall. Taking sixth, Sarah Jacques jumped 1.42m. Between the two jumpers, seven points were scored.
Angela Carlson jumped 1.37m, tying for seventh overall.
Ending the day on the field, multiple Cardinals competed in the discus throw. King threw 40.80m, taking first overall. McGuinness threw 33.90m, finishing fifth overall. Between the two throwers, 12 points were scored. O'Brien threw 31.10m, taking seventh overall. In ninth,
Hallie Knapp threw 29.07m.
Heptathlon
Throughout the two days,
Logan Fredrickson and
Lillian Farrand competed in the heptathlon. Fredrickson finished sixth overall, scoring 3105 points. Fredrickson's best event was the shot put, where she threw 9.25m and placed second. Farrand placed seventh overall, scoring 2555 points. Farrand's best event was the high jump, where she jumped 1.38m and placed fifth.
Up next, qualifying Cardinals will be travelling to Selinsgrove, PA as they compete in the Atlantic Regional Championship (AARTFC). The two-day event will be hosted by Susquehanna University and will be on Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18.
