Men’s Track & Field Finish Third in Empire 8 Championships

UTICA, NY – The St. John Fisher University Men's Track and Field team traveled to Utica, NY as they competed in day two of the 2023 Outdoor Track & Field Empire 8 Championships. With the conclusion of day two, the Cardinals finished third overall, after scoring 119 points.
 
On the Track
Starting the day on the track, the team of Curtis Cuvilly, Trenton Wynn, Cole Ferris, and Brady Bishop competed in the 4x100m relay. The team ran 42.99, placing second overall and scoring eight points.
 
Next, Fisher competed in the 1500m. Tony DiRubbo ran 4:08.71, placing fourth overall and scoring four points. Riley Nash placed seventh overall, running 4:16.14.
 
Right after, Fisher competed in the finals of the 110m hurdles. Wynn ran 15.74, taking third overall and scoring six points. John Ruggio ran 15.99, placing fifth and scoring two points.
 
In the 100m, Cuvilly ran 11.10, placing third overall and scoring six points. Bishop ran 11.23, placing seventh overall. Taking eighth, Wynn ran 11.26.
 
The 800m saw Peter Briggs run 1:59.42, finishing fourth overall. Right behind, Myles Andersen ran 1:59.50, placing fifth overall. Between the two runners, six points were scored. Dylan Esquivel ran 2:02.37, finishing seventh overall.
 
Next, multiple Cardinals competed in the 400m hurdles. Ruggio ran 56.52, placing first overall and breaking the facility record. Wynn placed fifth overall, running a time of 58.64. Luke Defio ran 58.95, finishing sixth overall. Between the three runners, 13 points were scored. Mathieu Acquard ran 59.41, finishing eighth overall. Rob Hartigan took tenth with a time of 1:02.62.
 
In the 200m, Bishop ran 22.68, finishing second overall and scoring eight points. Ferris ran 23.03, finishing eighth overall. Cuvilly ran 23.11, taking tenth overall.
 
Right after, multiple Cardinals competed in the 5000m. Riley Nash ran 16:14.21, placing sixth overall and scoring one point. Ethan Billings ran 16:22.33, finishing seventh overall. Taking eighth, Nick Ferri ran 16:29.41.
 
Ending the day on the track, the team of Bishop, Hartigan, Andersen, and Ferris competed in the 4x400m relay. The team ran 3:30.53, finishing fifth and scoring two points.
 
On the Field
First on the field, Fisher competed in the discus throw. Bryce Grove threw 39.31m, placing fifth overall and scoring two points.
 
Next, multiple Cardinals competed in the high jump. Sean Cochrane jumped 1.99m, finishing second overall. Bryant DePaull jumped 1.95m, taking third overall. The two jumpers scored a combined 14 points. Kuyler Coffin jumped 1.72m, finishing ninth overall.
 
In the triple jump, Ivan Lopez-Testillano jumped 14.46m, taking first overall and scoring 10 points. Wynn jumped 12.16m, finishing ninth overall.
 
Ending the day on the field, Fisher competed in the shot put. Ashton Glasser threw 11.68m, finishing tenth overall.
 
Decathlon
Throughout the two days, Maxwell Blowers and Josiah Bowers competed in the decathlon. Blowers placed second overall, scoring 5069 points. Blowers' best performance came in the high jump, where he jumped 1.60m and took first place. Bowers finished third overall, scoring 4524 points, Bowers' best event came in the shot put, where he took first with a throw of 10.28m. Between the two Cardinals, 14 points were scored.
 
Up next, qualifying Cardinals will be travelling to Selinsgrove, PA as they compete in the Atlantic Regional Championship (AARTFC). The two-day event will be hosted by Susquehanna University and will be on Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18.
