PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team will be hosting an Empire 8 Championship Semi-Final game this week as the No. 1 seed. On Wednesday, May 3, the team will host Hartwick College at 7pm. The winner of the match up will play on Saturday May 6, against the winner of the Nazareth vs Utica game. Fisher heads into the week with a 14-2 overall record and 7-0 in conference play. The team is ranked No. 19 in the IWLCA poll and No. 14 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine rankings.

Last Match-Ups
The Cardinals played the Hawks in their last regular season match up on April 29 in Oneonta, NY. Fisher recorded nine goals in the first quarter to start strong and continued to dominate throughout. At the end of regulation the Cardinals won by a 17-4 final score. Sydney Carpenter led the way with four goals, three assists, seven ground balls, five caused turnovers and 11 draw controls. On the defensive end, Shannon Foster recorded five ground balls and two caused turnovers to limit the Hawks to four goals. Hartwick heads into the week with a 10-4 overall record and is 4-3 in conference play.
Scouting the Hawks
Hartwick are a strong unit leading the conference in goals per game with 16.14, assists per game at 8.36 and points per game with 24.50. They lead the Empire 8 in shots per game at 33.86 and shots on goal per game at 27.57. Kristen Vaccarelli and her 62 total goals and 18 assists lead the offense and helping assist is Katrina Marten. Marten leads the conference with 54 assists.
Players to Watch
Carpenter received Empire 8 Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the second straight week this season. Carpenter recorded two goals and a season high of four assists for six points in the teams win over Medaille University on 4/26. She added one ground ball, one caused turnover and 10 draw controls. On Saturday against Hartwick College, she recorded four goals, three assists, seven ground balls, five caused turnovers and eleven draw controls. In the teams two wins, she had a combined 13 points, eight ground balls, six caused turnovers and 21 draw controls.
Leading on the defensive end is Foster, in the team's two wins last week she had a combined nine ground balls and two caused turnovers. The team's defensive unit has allowed just six goals in the past two games. Lilly Goodsell, with a 50% save percentage in the last two games, heads into the week with a season save average of 52%.
