PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team head into the week as the No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 Championship tournament and are set to host semi-final round. On Wednesday May 3, the team will compete against Hartwick College at 4pm at Growney Stadium. The winner of the two teams will play on Saturday May 6 against the winner of Nazareth vs Alfred. The Cardinals head into the competition with an 8-9 overall record and stand at 7-0 in conference play.
Last Match Ups
The Cardinals faced-off against the Hawks this season on April 15 at home. Fisher went into halftime leading 7-3, then came out in the second half, and outscored Hartwick 15-6 winning by a final score of 22-9. Matthew Kemmis led the team in goals with five adding one ground ball. Brady Mason and Timmy Salit both finishing with six points each. Mason with four goals, two assists and three ground balls, Salit with two goals, four assists and three ground balls. Ben Hammond made 10 saves that day and picked up three ground balls. The Hawks head into the week 6-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Players to Watch
Mason earned Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors for his performances in the teams' two wins this past week. Mason recorded four goals and one assist for five points and added two ground balls, in the teams' 16-14 win over Ithaca College. On Saturday, Mason tallied five goals, two assists and had three ground balls, to help defeat the Golden Flyers and clinch the Empire 8 regular season title.
Salit recorded a combined eight points, three ground balls and one caused turnover last week to contribute heavily on the offensive end.
On the defensive end, Zach Miltrano logged nine ground balls and three caused turnovers and Jack Cornell with six ground balls and seven caused turnovers in the two wins last week.
