PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's tennis team were at home on Saturday to take on Nazareth College for an important Empire 8 battle between two cross-town rivals. After falling behind early, Fisher came back to even the score but were unable to claim the deciding match and fell be a score of 5-4.
In the doubles matches, the team of
Sean Danahy and
Jake Anthony were able to claim victory by a convincing 8-1 score. The Cardinals dropped the other two doubles matches, but they turned it around in the singles battles. Anthony,
Will Chubb and
Nick Licciarddello were able to claim victories in their matches. Anthony earned impressive 6-0, 6-1 wins, while Chubb saw similar success defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-1. Licciarddello also won in straight sets, but they were a bit closer, winning 6-3, 6-4.
Danahy and
Anthony Molosag had impressive matches. Danahy earned the 7-3 tiebreaker win in the first set to win 7-6, but dropped back-to-back sets. Molosag had tiebreakers in both set, dropping both by a 7-6 final.
Up next for Fisher is a road match at Alfred University on Friday, April 14. The contest is set to begin at 4 p.m.
