Cardinals Complete Sweep Of Gators

TROY, NY – The St. John Fisher University baseball team traveled to Troy, NY as they took on Russell Sage College in a Saturday doubleheader. In game one, the Cardinals scored three in the top of the third inning to win 7-3. In game two, James Murphy homered early in the first, leading Fisher to a 15-3 victory. After today's results, Fisher moves to an overall record of 14-10 on the year and 9-0 in Empire 8 play.

Game One: Win, 7-3

Taking a couple innings to get into the swing of things, the Cardinals scored three runs in the top of the third inning. With the bases loaded, Ben Lavery was hit by a pitch, bringing home Nick Lemire. Immediately after, Luke Duffy singled to right field, driving home two runs, the score 3-1. Picking the scoring back up in the top of the fourth, Lemire singled to center field, bringing home two runners. Staying consistent, the top of the fifth saw the Cardinals pick up two more runs, with Duffy scoring on a wild pitch shortly followed by Lemire flying out to left field, Andrew Roman scoring. The game ended after seven innings, with Fisher winning 7-3.

Pitching all seven innings for the Cardinals, Patrick McGuire collected the win after facing 28 batters. McGuire struck out ten batters, walked one, gave up six hits and three runs. After today's result, McGuire moves to an overall record of 3-0.

Game Two: Win, 15-3

Murphy started the second game strong for the Cardinals, homering to center field in the top of the first, bringing home Lemire. In the top of the third, Lemire scored on an error. The top of the fourth saw Fisher score four times. Noah Campanelli singled to right field, bringing home Jake Meeker. Right after, Lemire singled to right field, with Jack Migliore scoring. Up next, Murphy singled to left field, with Campanelli scoring. Later in the inning, Brian Norsen grounded out to shortstop, with Lemire scoring, Fisher leading 7-3.

In the top of the sixth, Lemire scored on a balk. The top of the seventh saw Fisher score four more times. Duffy started the scoring, scoring on an error. Right after, Campanelli and Migliore both scored on an error. Later in the inning, Norsen reached on a fielding error, with Lemire scoring. In the eighth inning, Migliore doubled down the left field line, with Lavery scoring. Right after, Campanelli doubled to left field, bringing home two runners. The game ended after eight innings, Fisher winning 15-3.

Starting for Fisher, Connor McHugh pitched 7.0 innings, striking out seven batters, and only allowing three hits and three runs. After today's result, McHugh moves to an overall record of 5-2. Pitching the final inning, Bryce Collis struck out two batters and only allowed one hit.

Next up, the Cardinals return home as they host Ithaca College at Dugan Yard. The game will take place on Wednesday, Apr. 12, with the first pitch set for 3:30 p.m.
