ALBANY, NY – The No. 10 St. John Fisher University men's volleyball team (20-6, 3-3 UVC) are coming off a thrilling reverse sweep over rival No. 13 Nazareth College, and will look to head into the UVC Championship Tournament on a high note. They travel to Russell Sage College on Saturday, April 8 for matchups against Northern Vermont University-Johnson and Russell Sage with first serve set for 4 p.m.

Scouting the Opponents
The Cardinals are slated to meet Northern Vermont University-Johnson for the first time in program history when the teams collide on Saturday, April 8 at 4 p.m.  The Badgers have posted an 11-6 record this season, and have lost to Endicott, Nichols, and SUNY Poly, all teams that the Cardinals have bested.

Fisher will look to move their win streak to three over Russell Sage on Saturday, when they face the 6-24 Gators. The Gators have won two straight and are looking to close out their regular season on a high note.

UVC Update
Following the Friday night win, the Cardinals moved to 3-3 in the UVC, which would be enough to move them into third place in the UVC standings after MIT pulled off the reverse sweep upset at No. 11 NYU.

As such, the tournament, which is slated for the weekend of April 14-16, will settle with No. 2 Vassar as the one seed, No. 7 New Paltz the two seed, Fisher the third, Elmira the fourth, No. 11 NYU the fifth, and MIT falling into the sixth spot.

The Cardinals will begin their UVC title defense against the sixth seeded NYU on Friday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m, with the winner set to move on against the number two seeded New Paltz on Saturday.

Cardinals in Five
The Cardinals have posted a 5-2 record across seven matches that have gone to five sets this season. Even more, the Cardinals last three contests have gone to five, dating back to a home win over Penn State Behrend on March 18.

The Cardinals have had seven or more matches go to five sets just twice in program history. In 2019, the Cardinals had eight matches go to five sets in a season in which Fisher finished with a 21-13 record, and last year, the Cardinals won five of the eight matches that went to five sets as part of a 24-8 campaign.

Player to Watch
The player of the week to watch will be Tyler Cohen, who is coming off an eight kill performance in the win over Nazareth to tie a season high for the sophomore. Cohen, a transfer from Division II North Greenville University, has collected 31 kills across 83 attempts, good for a 0.241% hitting percentage.

More notably, Cohen has been a factor on the court lately, putting down 18 kills over his last 13 sets played, hitting 0.295% with 21.0 points, 18 digs, and six blocks.
