HORSEHEADS, NY – The St. John Fisher University baseball team traveled to Horseheads, NY, as they took on Elmira College in an Empire 8 doubleheader. In game one, strong pitching by Patrick McGuire helped the Cardinals capture a narrow 2-1 victory. In game two, after coming back in the top of the ninth, Fisher came away winning 7-6 after ten innings.  After today's results, Fisher moves to an overall record of 23-12 and a conference record of 14-0.

Game One: Win, 2-1

The Cardinals fell behind 1-0 in the first inning. They started the scoring in the top of the fourth, when Brian Norsen hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Noah Campanelli. Immediately after, Dominic Guccia singled to left center, driving home Nick Lemire, making the score 2-1. Game one ended after seven innings, with the Cardinals winning 2-1.

Patrick McGuire started for Fisher, pitching the first 6.0 innings, striking out six batters, and only allowing one hit and one run. With today's victory, McGuire moves to an overall record of 6-0. Christian Maloney pitched the final 1.0 inning, striking out one batter and allowing no walks, hits, or runs to record the save.

Game Two: Win, 7-6

After trailing 3-0 for the first half of the game, in the top of the sixth, Fisher picked up their first run of the game, with Jake Crantz flying out to left field, bringing home Guccia. An inning later, in the top of the seventh, Norsen doubled to left center, bringing home James Murphy. The top of the eighth saw Campanelli fly out to right field, bringing home Crantz. In the top of the ninth, down by three, Ben Lavery homered to center field, bringing home Murphy and Lemire, and pushing the game to extra innings. In the top of the tenth inning, Norsen singled to third base, bringing home Campanelli, the Cardinals winning 7-6.

Starting for the Cardinals, Connor McHugh pitched 5.0 innings, striking out five batters, and allowing six hits and three runs. Benjamin Huckans pitched the next inning, striking out three batters, giving up one hit and two runs. Russell Dunlap pitched the final four innings, striking out seven batters, and only allowing two hits and a run. After today's win, Dunlap moves to a record of 4-1.

Up next, Fisher returns home, as they take on Utica University for games one and two of a three-game series. The doubleheader will take place on Saturday, May. 6., with the first pitch at Dugan Yard set for 1:00 p.m.
