BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team traveled to Brockport, N.Y., as they took on SUNY Brockport for a non-conference game. Timely hitting helped secure a 5-2 victory. After today's result, Fisher moves to an overall record of 21-12.
Starting the scoring was
James Murphy, who singled to left field in the top of the third, bringing home two runners, making the score 2-0. Later, in the top of the fifth,
Ben Lavery homered, the score 3-0. In the top of the seventh,
Noah Campanelli singled to right field, bringing home
Luke Duffy. In the top of the ninth, Murphy doubled to right field, with Campanelli scoring. After nine innings, Fisher came away winning 5-2.
Starting for the Cardinals,
Hunter Walsh pitched the first 3.0 innings. Facing 10 batters, Walsh struck out one batter and only allowed one hit, collecting the win and moving to an overall record of 3-1.
Christian O'Brien followed with 2.0 innings of scoreless ball and
Aidan Morris Followed with another innings of no runs for the Golden Eagles.
Ethan Fulton and
Conor Fitzgerald allowed the only two runs for the opposition in the late innings.
Christian Maloney got the save after pitching the final 2.0 innings, facing nine batters, striking out two and only allowing three hits.
Up next, Fisher travels to Horseheads, N.Y. as they take on Elmira College for a three-game series. Games one and two will take place on Saturday, Apr. 29., with the first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
