PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team will compete in two conference games on the road for their last week of regular season match ups. To start out the game week, the team will travel to Medaille University on Wednesday April 26, the game is set for 4pm. On Saturday, April 29, Fisher will compete away at 12:30pm against Hartwick College for their last regular season and conference game. Fisher heads into the week 12-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play. After defeating a top 20 opponent last week, the team is now ranked No. 20 in the IWLCA poll and No. 15 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine rankings.
Last Match-Ups
This will be the first time in program history that Fisher competes against Medaille University. The Mavericks were in the United East Conference up until this season. Medaille heads into the match up with a 8-4 overall record and is 2-3 in conference play.
Fisher has played the Hawks 18 times in program history and won all 18 of them. During the 2022 season, the Cardinals outscored Hartwick in each quarter and won at the end of regulation by a 18-6 final score. Fisher returns six of the seven goal scorers in last year's match up and look to keep the win streak alive to finish out the regular season play. The Hawks head into the week with a 10-3 overall record and are 4-2 in conference play.
Players to Watch
Sydney Carpenter received Empire 8 Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for her outstanding play all over the field during each of the teams wins last week. On 4/19 against Keuka she recorded two goals on two shots, two assists, three ground balls, two caused turnovers and 11 draw controls. In the teams win against Ithaca College she tallied two goals, one assist and had three ground balls, one caused turnover and seven draw controls. Finishing out the week, on Saturday against Russell Sage she had three goals, one assist, one ground ball and 11 draw controls. During the 3-0 week she had a combined 11 points, 29 draw controls, seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Lilly Goodsell had one of her best performances in cage this season on Friday against Ithaca College. She recorded nine saves and allowed just four goals for a .692 save percentage. Shannon Foster led the way on the defensive end with a combined 10 ground balls and eight caused turnovers to help lead Fisher to victory. As the Cardinals head into their last week of regular season games, these three will be key contributors to finish out strong.
