Weekly Preview: Men’s Lacrosse Set To Host Ithaca & Nazareth During Last Week of Regular Season

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team is set to host Ithaca College and Nazareth College for their last week of regular season games. They will start the week with an out of conference match up against the Bombers on Tuesday April 25 at 4pm. On Saturday, April 29 the team will celebrate their seniors on Senior Day and host Nazareth at 1pm for their last Empire 8 regular season game. The Cardinals head into the week with a 6-9 overall record and stand at 6-0 in conference play.

Last Match Ups

The Cardinals have competed against Ithaca College each year since 2006. Fisher has won the last three match ups. The two teams last saw each other during the 2022 season in Ithaca, NY. Fisher came out fast and scored 10 goals in the first half, to go into the second quarter up by a score of 10-1. The Cardinals kept the lead throughout all 60 minutes and won at the end of regulation by a score of 20-12. Fisher looks to continue this win streak again Ithaca and get their first win of the 2023 season.

Fisher has seen the Golden Flyers each season since 2006. The Cardinals have won 11 out of the 21 match ups, topping the Golden Flyers by one win. The teams last played during the 2022 season in Pittsford, NY, Fisher dominated from the start, leading at halftime 17-3. They never let up and finished winning by a 30-11 final score. The Cardinals look to dominate throughout the match up once against as they celebrate their seniors for Senior Day on Saturday.

Players to Watch

Timmy Salit was named the Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for his stand-out performances in last weeks match ups. Salit recorded a season high of four assists in the teams match up against No. 14 Union College on Wednesday night. He added five ground balls and one caused turnover. On 4/22 in a dominating win over Russell Sage, Salit tallied a season high of five goals and added one assist, to lead the way on the offensive end. Salit recorded a combined 10 points in last weeks two games. Ben Hammond held strong in cage against Union College on 4/19. He recorded 12 saves and nine goals allowed for a .571 save percentage, one of his best showings so far this season. He tallied three ground balls during the contest. On Saturday against Russell Sage, the face-off unit went 39-for-41. Scott Reeves went 12-12, Christian LoCasto 9-9, Logan Grom 8-9, Bryce Riffel 7-8 and Connor Mesh 3-3.
