PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team completed their home series as they hosted Houghton University at Dugan Yard for a doubleheader. In game one, a five-run third inning helped propel the Cardinals to a 6-0 victory. In game two, a consistent offense helped push Fisher to an 8-0 victory. After today's result, Fisher moves to an overall record of 20-12 on the year and 12-0 in the Empire 8.
Game One: Win, 6-0
Starting out the scoring early in the first,
Brian Norsen flied out to center field, with
Noah Campanelli scoring on the throw. Later in the third, the Cardinals put up five runs. With the bases loaded, Norsen homered to left field. Later in the inning,
Jake Crantz singled up the middle, driving home
Dominic Guccia. The game ended after the top of the seventh, with Fisher winning 6-0.
Starting for Fisher and collecting the win,
Patrick McGuire pitched all seven innings. Facing 26 batters, McGuire struck out seven batters, only giving up three hits and no runs. After today, McGuire moves to an overall record of 5-0.
Game Two: Win, 8-0
Keeping the momentum going from last game, Nicholas Lemire singled to center field, bringing home Campanelli. Later in the inning, Norsen doubled to right center, with Lemire scoring, the score 2-0. An inning later,
Luke Duffy started the inning homering down the right field line. Continuing the scoring in the bottom of the third, Norsen doubled down the left field line, with
James Murphy scoring, the score 4-0. The bottom of the fourth saw
Jack Migliore homer to left field. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Murphy flied out center field, with Migliore scoring on the throw. In the bottom of the eighth, Campanelli homered to left field. Two batters later, Murphy tripled to right field, bringing home Lemire. After nine innings, Fisher won 8-0.
Starting for the Cardinals,
Benjamin Huckans pitched the first 5.0 innings. Huckans faced 18 batters, striking out six, and giving up one hit and no runs. After today's win, Huckans moves to a record of 3-1. Up next,
Russell Dunlap pitched the final 4.0 innings, collecting the save. Facing 16 batters, Dunlap struck out one batter, and gave up three hits and no runs.
Up next, Fisher hits the road as they travel to Brockport, N.Y. The Cardinals take on SUNY Brockport on Wednesday, Apr. 26, for a 3:30 p.m. start.
