Troy, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team competed against Russell Sage College on the road on Saturday afternoon for an Empire 8 match-up. After dominating from start to finish, the Cardinals won by a 30-7 final score. Fisher now holds a 6-9 overall record and are 6-0 in conference play. The Gators fall to 5-11 on the season and are 1-5 in conference play.
Just 35 seconds into the first, Brett Seaman gets on the board, assisted by Tyler Edinger for his 12th goal of the season and first of the day. Scott Reeves picks up the next face-off and gets it into the Cardinals offensive end. Matthew Kemmis is next to get on the board to bring Fisher up 2-0. 6:49 to go in the first and Kemmis gets his second of the afternoon, Cardinals up 3-0. Logan Grom winning the next face-off gets it into the offensive end and finds Timmy Salit who puts it away. Just 40 seconds later, Salit tallies another assisted by Samuel Miller to make it 5-0. Fisher gets a man-up opportunity with 1:24 to go, Salit with his third of the day to bring Fisher up 7-0. As the first quarter winds out, Brady Mason and Salit each tally one to bring Fisher into the second quarter leading 9-0. The Cardinals started the second scoring three goals in just over one minutes to make it a quick 12-0 lead on the Gators. Ethan Kesselring, Kyler Ringgold with one each, and Sailt with his fifth. The Gators get their first of the day with 7:46 to go to make it 12-1. To finish out the first half, Colin Blakeslee, Quinn Peters, Dugan Doeblin and Miller each record one. Fisher leads 17-2.
As the third quarter began, Sage tallies a goal to make it 17-3. At the 9:42 minute mark, Mason puts one away, assisted by Edinger. The Gators answer back with their fourth of the day to make it 18-4. Just 45 second later, Peters finds Kaeton Piconi for his first goal of the season. The two teams each record two goals to head into the third with a 21-6 score, Fisher leads. Piconi gets a hat trick to start the fourth, assisted by Peters. Jack Gullo with a save on the defensive end is transitioned to offensive for another scoring opportunity. Dan Delaney takes it hard to cage and capitalizes to bring the Cardinals lead to 17. Matt Slowinski, Peters, Griffin Dautrich and Ty McHerron each put one away to bring the score to 27-6. Sage with a man-up goal stops the Cardinals scoring run. With one minute to go, Evan Pashalides and Mikey Peralta finish out the scoring for Fisher to bring the final score to 30-7 Cardinals win.
Salit led the way on the offense with five goals, one assist and added one caused turnover. Mason ended the day with three goals, two assists and one ground ball. Fisher had 17 different goal scorers today.
Up next for the Cardinals, the team will host Ithaca College on Tuesday, April 25th for an out of conference match up. The game is set for 4pm.
