No. 22 Women’s Lacrosse Downs No. 20 Ithaca College In Friday Match-Up

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team competed against Ithaca College at home on Friday. After a close first half, the Cardinals pulled away and won by an 11-4 final score. Kumpf lead the offense with six goals on the day to help Fisher to victory. Fisher now holds an 11-2 overall record and is 4-0 in conference play. The Bombers are now 9-6 overall.

Five minutes into play, Hanna Kumpf puts away her first goal of the day to give Fisher the early lead. The teams played strong defense in the first to head into the second quarter Fisher leading 1-0. Shannon Foster with a ground ball on the defensive end gets it to the offense where Kumpf once again goes hard to cage and gets her second to make it 2-0. With eight minutes to go until half, Sydney Carpenter is put on the eight, ripping one top left for her first of the day, Cardinals lead 3-0. Ithaca gets on the board with 6:18 to go in the second and puts another away to end the half. At halftime, the score stands at 3-2, Fisher on top.

One minute into the second half, Ella Stewart has a huge defensive play, causing an Ithaca turn over and Carpenter picks up the loose ball. Carpenter clearing it herself settles it into the offensive end. Kumpf finds the back of the net for a hat trick and puts the Cardinals lead back up by two, 4-2. A failed Ithaca clear, caused by Carpenter and the ground ball picked up by Mary Fiorentino, is transitioned down the field and is converted to a Cardinals goal. Mykenize Black finds a cutting Kaley Griffin who puts Fisher up 5-2. Fisher goes on to dominate the third quarter and scores four straight goals. Courtney O'Dea gets on the board, Carpenter rips another to the right corner, and Kumpf gets her fourth and fifth of the day. Heading into the fourth Fisher leads 9-2. Kumpf notches one more as she gets her six goal, Cardinals up 10-2. The Bombers put two away to make it 10-3. With 3:21 to go in regulation Tara Osterdale with a spot on pass to O'Dea cutting through the eight to make it 11-4. As time ran down Fisher came out on top by a final score of 11-4.

Kumpf ended the day with six goals, tying her best on the season. She added two ground balls, one caused turnover and two draw controls. Carpenter finished with two goals, one assist, seven draw controls, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Lily Goodsell ended in cage with nine saves and just four goals allowed for a .692 save percentage. Foster led on defense with four caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Up next for the Cardinals, on Saturday the team will be celebrating their seniors for Senior Day as they host Russell Sage College. The Empire 8 match up is set for 1pm.
