No. 22 Women’s Lacrosse Top Gators on Senior Day

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team competed at home against Russell Sage at home on Saturday. The team celebrated their four senior's, Lauren Swartz, Courtney O'Dea, Lilly Goodsell and Tara Osterdale prior to the first draw. After 60 minutes of play, the Cardinals won by a 23-2 final score. Fisher now holds a 12-2 overall record and is 5-0 in conference play. The Gators are now 5-7 and are 2-4 in conference play.

The Cardinals won the first draw of the game, Sydney Carpenter with her first of many, gaining possession for Fisher. The first goal of the match up was scored off a free position shot from O'Dea just 30 seconds in. Shannon Foster with an interception on the defensive end, gets the ball to the offense for another scoring opportunity. O'Dea gets her second of the day off an assist from Mary Fiorentino, Cardinals up 2-0. Next to get on the board is Carpenter with a behind the back shot, assisted by O'Dea to give Fisher a three goal lead. With 11:32 to go in the first, Fiorentino found the back of the net off a free position to make it 4-0. The Cardinals kept the momentum running and scored eight straight goals to end the first quarter up 12-0. The Gators recorded their first goal of the day to start the second quarter. Farrah Zalla answered right back to bring Fisher up 13-1, assisted by Carpenter. Sage tallied another goal 10 minutes in to make it 13-2. Mykenzie Black converted on a free position opportunity to bring the Cardinals up by 12. A failed Gator clear, caused by Maddie Lowney gets Fisher another offensive possession. This time, its Osterdale who finds the back of the net off a pass from Sydney Closinski. Fisher records two more goals as halftime approaches to make it 17-2 heading into half.

To start off the second half, 1:30 in, Osterdale gets her second of the day, assisted by Paige Miller, Fisher up 18-2. Carpenter tallies her third of the day and Emma Biel records two back to back to bring Fisher into the fourth leading 21-2. The Cardinals controlled the tempo and pace throughout the fourth, Zalla and Schatz scoring two goals to end the fourth and secure a 23-2 Cardinals win.

The Cardinals had 12 different gaol scorers today. Senior O'Dea leading with three goals and three assists, she went three-for-three on her shots today. Carpenter ended the day with three goals and one assist, she added 11 draw controls, and one ground ball. Closinski recorded five assists, a season and career high for the first year.

Up next for the Cardinals, the team will travel to Buffalo, NY and compete against Medaille University on Wednesday, April 26th. The Empire 8 match up is set to start at 4pm.
