PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team continued their home stand, as they hosted Houghton University at Dugan Yard. A four-run bottom of the first helped set the tone for the rest of the game as the Cardinals went on to win 15-4. After today's result, Fisher moves to an overall record of 18-12 on the year and 10-0 in the Empire 8.
Starting the scoring early in the bottom of the first, Nicholas Lemire flied out to left field, with
Noah Campanelli scoring. Shortly after,
Ben Lavery singled to left field, driving in two runs. Immediately after,
Ethan Perry flied out to center field, with
Dominic Guccia scoring, Fisher leading 4-1. Continuing the scoring in the second inning,
James Murphy homered to center field, bringing home Campanelli. In the bottom of the third, Perry homered to center field, with Guccia scoring. Later in the inning, Campanelli singled to left field, driving home
Jack Migliore, the score 9-2.
Keeping the runs coming in the fourth,
Brian Norsen singled to left field, with Murphy scoring. Immediately after, Guccia doubled down the left field line, bringing home Norsen. Up next, Lavery homered to center field, driving in Guccia. A few batters later, Campanelli singled to left field, with
Jake Crantz scoring, Fisher leading 14-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Lavery hit his second homer of the game. The game ended after seven innings, with the Cardinals winning 15-4.
Starting for the Cardinals,
Connor McHugh pitched 5.0 innings, collecting the win. Facing 23 batters, McHugh struck out three, gave up seven hits, and four runs.
Christian Maloney pitched the final 2.0 innings, facing seven batters, striking out three, and only giving up one hit.
In the bottom of the third, Campanelli stole his third base of the game, stealing 31 total bases in the season and setting the single-season stolen base record for Fisher baseball.
Up next, Fisher continues their home series against Houghton University as they host games two and three in a doubleheader on Sunday, Apr, 23. The games will be hosted at Dugan Yard, with game one scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
