PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team competed against Keuka College at home on Wednesday afternoon. At the end of regulation, the Cardinals won by a 22-1 final score. The Cardinals had 15 different goal scorers throughout the game. Fisher now holds a 10-2 overall record and is 4-0 in conference play. The Wolves' are now 1-9 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
To start out the first half, Sydney Carpenter controlled the first draw of the contest. At the 12:58 minute mark, Carpenter caused a Keuka turnover on their clear and collected the ground ball to bring it safely to the offensive end. Carpenter found Hanna Kumpf cutting through the eight for the first goal of the match up. Carpenter recorded her 100th career point with this assist. Just less than one minute later, Kumpf gets her second of the day, unassisted. Kumpf picked up the next draw control and got the offense settled. Carpenter took it to cage hard off an assist by Mary Fiorentino to bring the Cardinals up by three. Shannon Foster picked off a Keuka pass for an interception and ran it down the field herself. She found Courtney O'Dea on the other side who put it away, Fisher leads 5-0. Another strong defensive play by the Cardinals lead to a transition goal on the offensive end. Fiorentino rides hard to get a caused turnover and carries it down to the offensive side, she finds Tara Osterdale getting her first of the day. With 2:45 to go in the first quarter, Farrah Zalla converted on a woman-up opportunity, assisted by Kaley Griffin. Fisher went into the second quarter up 9-0. Carpenter got her second goal of the day to start out the second quarter scoring. Throughout the 2nd quarter, Dharma Makarowsky recored four goals, while Sydney Closinski, Cara Landry and Emma Biel each tallied one to bring Fisher into halftime leading 17-0.
Fisher began to slow down the tempo and control the pace as the third quarter began. Four minutes into the third, Megan McGrath gets on the board to bring the Cardinals up by 18. Paige Miller makes a big play on defense, intercepting a Wolves pass and carried it down to the offense. Miller gets put on the eight for a scoring opportunity, she converts and makes it 20-0. Kaley Griffin gets her first goal of the day, and Makarowsky records her fifth, a season high. The Cardinals head into the fourth leading 22-0. With three minutes left in regulation, the Wolves find the back of the next to get their first tally of the game. As Fisher worked the ball around and time ran out, the Cardinals came out on top by a 22-1 final score.
Not only did Carpenter record her 100th career point during the match up, she also tallied her 100th draw control of the season. She finished the day with two goals, two assists, 11 draw controls, two caused turnovers and three ground balls. She went two-for-two on her shooting for the day. Makarowsky lead the team in goals, finishing with five, a career and season high for the first year.
Up next for the Cardinals, the team will host an out of conference match up against Ithaca College on Friday, April 21st at 4pm.
