Middle Of Lineup Push Cardinals Past Tigers

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team stayed home, as they hosted RIT at Dugan Yard. After Ben Lavery hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third, the Cardinals went on to win 13-8. After today's result, Fisher moves to an overall record of 17-12 on the year.
 
Starting the game slowly, Fisher picked up their first runs of the game in the bottom of the third, after scoring six runs. Noah Campanelli started the scoring, advancing home on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Dominic Guccia was walked, with Nick Lemire advancing home. Up next, Lavery hit a grand slam, the inning ended with Fisher leading, 6-0. Continuing their scoring in the bottom of the fourth, Brian Norsen tripled to right field, driving home Lemire. Right after. Guccia singled to left field, with Norsen scoring, the Cardinals lead 8-0.
 
Picking up the scoring in the bottom of the fifth, Campanelli doubled to left center, bringing home Jake Crantz. Two batters later, James Murphy singled to second base, driving in two runs, the score 11-0. Leading off the bottom of the eighth, Norsen homered to left center. Later in the inning, Ethan Perry singled to second base, bringing home Joe Ruggiero, the score 13-2. Despite a late surge by the Tigers, Fisher came away with a 13-8.
 
Starting for the Cardinals, Anthony Lang pitched 0.2 innings, facing four batters and walking one, but was pulled due to injury. Throughout the rest of the game, five more pitchers pitched for Fisher. Hunter Walsh came away with the win, pitching 4.0 innings, facing 15 batters, striking out five, and only giving up three hits.
 
Campanelli and Lemire combined for six hits at the top of the lineup. The power bats of Murphy, Norsen, Guccia and Lavery helped collect 10 RBI on six hits.
 
Up next, Fisher continues their home stand as they host Houghton University on Apr. 21. The game will be hosted at Dugan Yard, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
