Weekly Preview: No. 22 Women’s Lacrosse Set To Compete in Three Home Match Ups

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team will face three opponents this week, two Empire 8 conference games and one out of conference match up. To start out the busy week, the team will host Keuka College on Wednesday April 19 the game is set for 4pm. On Friday, April 21, Fisher will host Ithaca College for a non-conference game at 4pm. To wrap up the weekend, the Cardinals will host Russell Sage for Senior Day on Saturday April 22 at 1pm. Fisher heads into the week 9-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Last Match-Ups

Fisher has competed against the Wolves twice, in 2021 they won 20-2 and in their most recent match up in 2022, 20-1. The team outscored Keuka in all four quarters and dominated all over the field. The Cardinals return five goal scorers from last season match up and look to bring their win steak with the Wolves to 3-0. Keuka College heads into the match up 1-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

The Cardinals have faced Ithaca College almost every year since 2006 for an out of conference match up. Fisher has won 12 of the 20 games played. The most recent game was during the 2022 season in Ithaca, NY. The Bombers won at the end of regulation by a 13-6 final score. Cara Landry, Sydney Carpenter and Mary Fiorentino were the three goal scorers from last year's match up and look to help lead Fisher on Friday afternoon. Ithaca heads into the week with a 9-5 record.

This Saturday will be the fifth time in program history the team has faced Russell Sage College. Fisher has won in all four-match ups throughout the years. In 2022, the Cardinals beat the Gators 17-1, dominating in all 60 minutes. Returners from last season, Farrah Zalla led the team in goals last match up with four, Fiorentino right behind with three, Carpenter chipping in two, Mykenzie Black and Courtney O'Dea with one a piece. The team will look to dominate once again on Senior Day this Saturday. The Gators head into the week with a 5-5 overall record and are 2-2 in conference play.

Players to Watch

Sydney Carpenter continues to contribute all over the field for her team, in their win over Alfred University on 4/12 she tallied two goals and two assists for four points. She added three ground balls and five draw controls to help her team secure a win. On 4/15 against Nazareth College, she finished with five goals and two assists for seven points, recording 12 draw controls and and one ground ball to help her team to victory. She had a combined 11 points and 17 draw controls in the teams two wins last week. Carpenter currently leads the Empire 8 in draw controls per game, averaging nine.

Lilly Goodsell continues to hold strong in cage for Fisher. She is leading the Empire 8 in goals against average with an average of 6.6 goals against per game.

Hanna Kumpf is a key contributor on the offensive side of the field for Fisher. She is currently leading the team in goals this season with 24 goals in 11 games played. She has eight assists on the season, nine ground balls, and 15 draw controls.

Shannon Foster and Maddie Lowney are leading on the defensive end. Foster has a team high of 13 caused turnovers with 20 ground balls so far this season and Lowney with 10 caused turnover and a team high of 30 ground balls.
