PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team is set to travel to face No. 10 Union College and Russell Sage College this week. First, they will face-off against Union in Schenectady, NY on Wednesday April 19 at 5pm. On Saturday, April 22 the team will travel to Troy, NY and compete against Russell Sage at 1pm. The Cardinals head into the week with a 5-8 overall record and stand at 5-0 in conference play.
Last Match Ups
The Cardinals have seen the Dutchman six times in program history with the most recent face-off was on April 6 during the 2022 season. During the last match up, the two teams played a very close game, Fisher led at halftime 7-6. The Dutchman recorded one more goal in the third and fourth quarter than Fisher to ultimately come out on top at the end of regulation by a 13-12 final score. Union holds a 7-5 record this season so far.
The Gators and Cardinals have competed just twice, once in 2019 and 2022. During the 2022 season, the teams faced off in Pittsford, NY and the Cardinals dominated throughout all four quarters and won by a 29-3 final score. Fisher had 17 different goal scorers that day and return 11 for the match up on Saturday. The Gators are 5-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Players to Watch
Brady Mason continues to be a key contributor on the offensive end. In the teams two Empire 8 wins this past week, he totaled a combined 11 points. On 4/12 against Alfred University, he recorded five goals to lead the offensive and added three ground balls and one caused turnover. During the teams match up against Hartwick College on Saturday he tallied four goals and two assists for six points and added three ground balls.
Ben Hammond was named Empire 8 Goal of the Week with his two stand out performances last week. He recorded seven saves against Alfred University on 4/12, allowing nine for a .438 save percentage. In the teams win over Hartwick College on 4/15, he had 10 saves and finished with a .526 save percentage, allowing just nine goals. Hammond recorded eight ground balls throughout the teams two wins last week.
