Cardinals Fall In Closely-Fought Game

PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University baseball team stayed home as they hosted SUNY Oswego at Dugan Yard. After going back and forth with the Lakers, the Cardinals fell 12-9. After today's result, Fisher moves to an overall record of 15-11 on the year and remains 9-0 in Empire 8 play.
 
Starting the scoring early for Fisher in the bottom of the first, Nick Lemire grounded out to second, bringing home Noah Campanelli. The Cardinal's next runs came in the bottom of the third, with James Murphy homering to left field, bringing in three runs, Fisher trailing 4-5. A few innings later, in the bottom of the sixth, Campanelli doubled to left center, with Jack Migliore scoring, the Cardinals trailing 5-7. In a high-scoring final inning, Brian Norsen doubled to left field, with Jake Crantz scoring. Immediately after, Dominic Guccia doubled up the middle, bringing home Norsen and Murphy. Later in the inning, Migliore was hit by a pitch, with Guccia scoring from advancing. With three runners left on base, the game ended with Fisher falling 9-12.
 
Starting for the Cardinals, Benjamin Huckans pitched 2.1 innings, facing 16 batters, striking out one, and giving up five runs. Russell Dunlap pitched the next 4.1 innings, facing 24 batters, striking out six, and giving up five runs. Three more pitchers pitched the final two innings for Fisher, giving up a combined two runs and striking out three batters.
 
Campanelli finished the day 4-for-6 including two triples, a double and finishing a homerun shy of the cycle. Murphy, Norsen and Guccia all had multi-hit games and each drove in at least one RBI.
 
Next up, the Cardinals travel to Oswego, NY, as they face SUNY Oswego in a doubleheader. The games will take place on Saturday, Apr. 15, with game one set to start at 12:00 pm.
