OSWEGO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University baseball team was on the road on Saturday to compete in a double-header against Oswego State. The offense was impressive in both games, scoring 35 runs between the two games, on their way to a pair of wins. The results put Fisher at 16-12 on the year.
Game One: Cardinals 15 – Lakers 7
It was a quiet opening two innings of the first game, with the two teams combining for only four hits. In the top of the third, the Fisher offense was able to put up five runs.
Erik Charnetski singled to start the frame and
Jack Migliore was hit by a pitch to put two runners on.
Noah Campanelli put the ball in play and an error by the Lakers allowed a run to come across and give the team the 1-0 lead. With two outs,
Brian Norsen doubled to left to drive in two runs and push the advantage to three.
Dominic Guccia followed with a single that allowed Norsen to score. Another error by the opposition brought Guccia home and after three innings, the Cardinals were ahead 5-2.
Fisher began to extend their lead in the late innings, starting with two in the sixth.
Jack Migliore used a sacrifice fly to score Guccia and Campanelli singled up the middle to score
Jake Crantz. The runs continued to cross home plate in the seventh. After
James Murphy and Norsen reached base, Guccia singled to right, scoring Murphy.
Ben Lavery then showed off his power with his sixth home run of the year, putting the Cardinals in front 11-3. Migliore drove in the fifth run of the inning with a double to left center. The final two runs of insurance came in the eighth frame and Fisher secured the 15-7 win.
Guccia ended the game hitting 5-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI. Campanelli, Murphy, Norsen, Lavery and Migliore all finished with at least two RBI.
Patrick McGuire secured his fourth win of the year, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing three runs on six hits.
Christian Maloney pitched the final 2.1 innings and gave up just one run on two hits.
Game Two: Cardinals 20 – Lakers 8
The offense ignited once again in the third inning. With two runners on, Murphy doubled to score Campanelli and then Norsen used a single to bring in Crantz and Murphy. A couple of batters later, Lavery brought in Norsen with a sacrifice fly to center field. The Cardinals took a 4-0 lead into the middle innings.
The offense did not let up as the team scored 14 runs in three innings to put the Lakers away. In the fifth, singles by Lavery and
Ethan Perry drove in runs, and then Migliore tallied a three-run homerun to make the score 9-2. In the sixth, Perry and Murphy hit homeruns to combine for five runs. In between the homers, Campanelli singled to right field to score Migliore. After six innings, Fisher leads 15-2. As the seventh inning went along, the Cardinals added three more runs on home runs by Lavery and
John Wells. Fisher added two more runs in the final frames and ended with a 20-8 win.
Connor McHugh earned the win after pitching 5.2 innings. In that time, he allowed seven hits, four runs, walked three and struck out five.
Ethan Fulton,
Joseph Tronetti and
Bryce Collis combined to throw 3.0 innings and allowed four runs on six hits in that period.
Fisher returns home on Wednesday, April 19 to host RIT at Dugan Yard. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
