Softball Split Against Hardin-Simmons

MARSHALL, TX – The St. John Fisher University softball team continued their spring trip in Texas with a double-header against Hardin-Simmons University. The Cardinals split the two games, dropping the first, 7-5, before going on to win the second, 3-2. With the results, Fisher now holds a record of 5-1 on the year.

Game One: Loss, 7-5

A lot of the scoring was done early by the two teams, starting with Hardin-Simmons collecting four in the first. The Cardinals answered by scoring three in the bottom of the inning on hits by Cassidy Evanetski and Allie Klonowski, and a ground out by Mari Spitz that allowed Evanetski to score. After giving up another run in the third to bring the score to 5-3, Fisher tallied runs in the fifth and sixth inning to even the game. However, the Cowboys took the lead in the final inning and held on to defeat the Cardinals, 7-5.

Game Two: Win, 3-2

In the second game, Cassidy Ormond took the mound and pitched a complete game. In those 7.0 innings of work she allowed nine hits, two runs, on earned and struck out three batters. The offense struck early for the Cardinals, thanks to an error by the Cowboys third baseman, which scored Evanetski and Amalia DeMartino. Hardin-Simmons tallied a run in the fourth, but Fisher tallied insurance in the sixth, thanks to a single down the right field line by Tori LoPresto that scored Liv Godley. Cassidy got out of danger in the seventh and the team held on to win 3-2.

Up next for the Cardinals is a double-header against East Texas Baptist. The first game is scheduled for a 4pm CT / 5pm ET first-pitch.
