PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team is set to travel to Colorado Springs, CO for spring break and the team will play Messiah University at Colorado College on Wednesday, March at 2pm and Colorado College on Friday, March 10 at 4pm. The team heads into spring break with a 1-0 record and their first win of the season under their belt.
Last Match-Ups
The last time Fisher played against Messiah was in 2021, this is the only match up in program history to date. The two teams competed at a neutral site in Waterville, Maine in the NCAA Regional Championship round, Fisher defeated the Falcons by a final score of 9-5. With this win the team advanced to the program's first-ever NCAA National Semifinal game. Messiah heads into the weekend with a 2-1 record on the season. They upset No. 5 Gettysburg in their second game of the season. The Falcons will be Cardinals first ranked opponent match up of the season.
The Cardinals have played against Colorado College once in program history, in 2018 in Colorado. Fisher defeated the Tigers 17-9 at the end of regulation. The Cardinals had nine different goal scorers that day and dominated in all 60 minutes of play. The Tigers head into the week with a 3-0 start to the season. Fisher looks to dominate the match up once again and give Colorado College their first loss of the season.
Players to Watch
During the Cardinals first game of the season Hanna Kumpf, Sydney Carpenter and Cara Landry lead the way on the offensive end, while Lauren Swartz and Shannon Foster held strong on the defensive end.
Kumpf netted the first goal of the season for the Cardinals and then tallied another to give Fisher a 3-0 lead. She finished the night leading the team in goals with three, adding one draw control and one ground ball.
Carpenter had the second goal of the day and added another in the 4th. She had a team high of six draw controls and recorded two ground balls. Landry led the team in points on the night, finishing with two goals and two assists, she added one ground ball.
On the defensive end, Swartz led the way with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Shannon Foster recorded three ground balls and one caused turnover. These two led the way defensively to hold onto the lead late in the fourth quarter, to secure a 10-7 win over the Yellow Jackets.
