Men’s Lacrosse Fall By One To SUNY Geneseo

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team competed against SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday night. After 60 minutes of play, the Cardinals took defeat by a final score of 9-8. Fisher now holds a 0-7 record, while the Knights are now 7-3.

The Knights got the scoring started just 30 seconds in, and added another less than a minute later, to get a quick 2-0 lead. At the 13:13 minute mark, the Knights tallied another now up by three. Griffin Dautrich put Fisher on the board 2 minutes and 30 seconds into the game to cut the Knights lead back to two points. Jacob Gallina recorded the last goal of the first to put Fisher down by just three heading into the second quarter. Matt Slowinski takes it hard to cage himself, getting his first of the night, the score stands at 7-3 heading into halftime.

To start the second half, Geneseo capitalized and got the first goal of the third quarter. A minute later, Jack Cornell cleared the ball successfully and secured a Cardinals possession. Lane Edinger answered back putting one in the back of the net to bring the score to 8-4. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Knights lead 9-4. Ethan Kesselring got his first of the night, assisted by Colin Blakeslee to pick up the Cardinals momentum. With 8:56 to go, Blakeslee finds Kesselring once again for another goal, his second of the night. 20 seconds later, Timmy Salit grabs a rebound and finds the back of the net to bring the Cardinals deficit to two, 9-7. The Knights struggled to clear and Fisher began to capitalize. With 2:50 to go in regulation, Salit picked up a ground ball and put it away to bring the score to 9-8. Gallina took the final shot, but the Cardinals ultimately  ran out of time. Fisher defense held strong in the fourth to leave the Knight's scoreless throughout the final quarter of play. Geneseo wins 9-8 at the end of regulation.

Up next for the Cardinals, the team will host Medaille University for their first Empire 8 match up on Friday at 4pm.
