PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University men's lacrosse team competed against Medaille University on Friday for their first Empire 8 match up of the year. After dominating in all 60 minutes of action, the Cardinals came out on top by a final score of 27-0. Fisher gained their first conference and season win and are now 1-7 on the season. Medaille falls to 1-6 on the year and 0-1 in Empire 8.
Samuel Miller gets the scoring started for the Cardinals, assisted from Matthew Kemmis just 30 seconds in. At the 13:28 minute mark, Fisher went on a run and recorded three quick goals to go up by four. Colin Blakeslee, Griffin Dautrich and Timmy Salit all got their first of the day. With 4:47 to go in the first, the Cardinals scored four goals in one minute. Fisher leads 10-0 heading into the second. Kemmis tallied five assists in the first quarter.
Matt Slowinski started things out for the Cardinals in the second, assisted by Evan Pashalides. Quinn Peters gets his first goal of the season, assisted by Ty Teelin with 12:08 to go in the second. Ty McHerron finished out the scoring for the Cardinals to bring them into halftime leading 18-0. Fisher outshot the Mavericks 33 to 2 in the first half.
Dautrich started out the second half with his second goal of the day unassisted to bring the Cardinals up 19-0. Throughout the third quarter, Fisher possessed the ball and looked for the right scoring opportunities during each possession. Mikey Peralta recorded his second with 2:21 left in the third quarter. Heading into the fourth the Cardinals led 22-0.
Slowinski hit the post, picked up his own rebound and put it away to bring the Cardinals up 24-0 with 11:45 left in regulation. With 6:31 to go, Eric Stoesser had a solid hustle play on the defensive end and cleared the ball safely for an offensive possession. On the other end, Peralta found Hunter Noteware for his first goal of the season. Fisher tallied two quick goals as time ran out and won at the end of regulation by a final score of 27-0. With this win the Cardinals pick up their first win of the season and first of conference play.
Perelta led the team in goals, with four goals and two assists for six points, he also recorded four ground balls. Kemmis led the team in assist with six on the day, adding one ground ball. McHerron finished with three goals, one assist, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Stoesser led the defense with three caused turnover and one ground ball.
Up next for the Cardinals, the team will travel to Canton, NY and compete against St. Lawrence University on Sunday at 2pm.
