BUFFALO, NY – The St. John Fisher University baseball team traveled to Buffalo, as they played a double header away against Medaille University. In the first game, a dominant first few innings helped the Cardinals secure a 27-6 victory over the Mavericks. In the second game, the Cardinals won 11-2. After today's results, Fisher moves to an overall record of 6-9 on the year and 2-0 in Empire 8 play.
Game One: Win, 27-6
The first inning started with
James Murphy tripling to left center, bringing in two runners. Later in the inning,
Brian Norsen singled to center field, bringing in
Ben Lavery. The top of the second inning saw Norsen ground out to third base, with
Noah Campanelli scoring. The Cardinal's scored five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by
Jack Migliore singling through the left side, collecting two RBIs, and Campanelli singling to collect an RBI, the score 9-0.
The Cardinal's carried their momentum into the fifth inning, scoring four more runs, with Migliore hitting a double to right center, with
Jake Meeker scoring. The Mavericks also scored six runs this inning, cutting the score to 13-6. In the sixth inning, the Cardinals scored seven more runs. Highlighting this inning,
Luke Duffy singled to right field, collecting two RBIs. Later in the inning, Murphy hit another triple, bringing in Migliore. Fisher finished the game scoring seven more runs in the seventh inning. Duffy started the run with a double, bringing in Norsen. Lemire and Murphy both hit doubles, the game ending 27-6.
Connor McHugh started for the Cardinals, pitching 4.2 innings, facing 17 batters and striking out five to earn the win.
Christian Maloney came on next, pitching 1.1 innings and striking out one batter.
Conor Fitzgerald closed, pitching the final inning and striking out three batters.
Game Two: Win, 11-2
The second game started slower than the first, with the first runs of the game coming in the third inning. Campanelli started the scoring by hitting a sacrifice fly to center to score
Dominic Guccia. Next up, Lemire singled to center field, with
Andrew Roman scoring. Murphy then flied out to center field, with Migliore scoring.
In the top of the fifth, Migliore scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Duffy walked, with Lemire scoring, the score 5-0. In the top of the sixth, Lemire singled, bringing in Campanelli. The top of the eighth saw Lemire hit a double, bringing in two runners. Right after, Murphy reached on a fielder's choice bringing in Campanelli. In the ninth, Migliore tripled, bringing in Duffy. Shortly after, Migliore scored on a balk. The game ended with Fisher winning 11-2.
Patrick McGuire started for the Cardinals, pitching 5.0 innings, striking out three batters, and giving up no runs on his way to a win.
Ethan Fulton pitched 2.0 innings, earning an ERA of 4.50.
Russell Dunlap closed, pitching 2.0 innings and also earning an ERA of 4.50.
Next up, the Cardinals travel back to Buffalo to take on Medaille College in the final game of the series. The game will take place on Monday, Mar. 27, and will begin at 3 p.m.
