Weekly Preview: Women’s Lacrosse Take on Lakers and Royals

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - The St. John Fisher University women's lacrosse team is set to host SUNY Oswego on Wednesday, March 15 at 4pm and travel to match-up against The University of Scranton on Saturday, March 18 at 4pm. The team heads into the week with a 2-1 overall record and look to keep their win streak alive.

Previous Match-Ups

The Cardinals have faced SUNY Oswego three times in program history. The last and most recent match-up between the two teams was in March of 2022. The teams played in Oswego, N.Y. and the Cardinals claimed victory by a final score of 11-4.

Returners from a season ago, Sydney Carpenter recorded two goals, six ground balls, five draw controls and Courtney O'Dea recorded one goal, one assist and two ground balls in 2022 against the Lakers. The Cardinals look to come out on top once again in their match-up on Wednesday against the Lakers.

On Saturday, March 18, the Cardinals will compete against The University of Scranton for the first time in program history. The Royals hold a 1-3 overall record so far on the season. They have matched up against three top 20 teams and have fallen to all three. Their lone win on the season is against Lebanon Valley by a score of 14-2.

Players to Watch

Goalie, Lilly Goodsell was named Empire 8 Women's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week this week. She had a stand out performance in both match-ups last week against Messiah University and Colorado College. On 3/8 against the Falcons, Goodwill recorded 13 saves on 22 shots on goal. She finished the day with a .59 save percentage. In the teams win over Colorado College on 3/11, she had seven saves and just nine goals allowed. She ended the week with a combined 20 of 38 shots saved for a .526 save percentage.

Midfielder, Hanna Kumpf had a team high of six goals against the teams win over Colorado College. She also tallied one assist for seven points on the day, one ground ball and two draw controls. Carpenter lead the team in draws controls with a season high of 12 against the Tigers. She also added one goal, one assist, two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
