ALBANY, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's basketball team beat the Sage Gators on Saturday, 84-33, to move to 2-0 in Empire 8 play.
The Cardinals dominated the game from the beginning, outscoring the Gators 22-4 in the first quarter before extending their lead to 40-13 at halftime.
Fisher's defense held the Gators to single-digits in three of the four quarters, while offensively 13 of the team's 15 active players scored at least once. All but one of the players recorded at least one rebound.
Freshman forward Joleen Lusk led the team in scoring, with 19 points. The Cherry Valley native added two blocks and six rebounds to her stat sheet as well as an assist and a steal. Junior guard Sidney Tomasso led the team in rebounds, with 10, and scored 14 points. Defensively, senior Claire Kruszka had four steals.
The 51 point victory is Fisher's largest of the season thus far and their first victory of 50 or more since their 118-64 victory (54 points) over Utica on Feb. 7, 2023.
With their first streak of Empire 8 games over, the Cardinals begin a series of four out-of-conference games, beginning with a Tuesday night showdown with Penn State Berks in Reading, Penn. Tip-off on Dec. 5 is scheduled for 6 p.m.
