PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's basketball team were on the road on Friday to begin Empire 8 Competition with a matchup against Hartwick College. The Cardinals controlled the game from start to finished and worked their way to a 93-50 victory over the Hawks.
Despite a bit of a back and forth to kick off the game, the team began to pull away with 7:46 to go in the first half. A jump shot by
Daniel Cook and pair of free-throws by
Darrien Grady extended the lead to 22-17. With just under five minutes to go,
Brendan McRoy knocked down a three to push the advantage to double-digits and after four free-throw makes by Cook down the stretch, the Cardinals led 41-27 at the break.
Fisher did not waste time pushing their lead, coming out of the break with a layup by Cook and
Jack Foley to make it 47-27. With 11:55 to play in the game,
Matt Lettko made a basket to bring the lead to 30 points. The team didn't stop there, as
Max Schneider,
Brad Fowler and
Connor Recore added buckets to put the team in front 81-41. The Cardinals cruised to the end, winning by a final of 93-50.
Cook led the team in scoring with 23 points, while also grabbing 17 rebounds. Fowler was the other Cardinal in double-digit scoring, going 5-for-5 from the field for 12 points.
The Cardinals continue their first stint of Empire 8 play on Saturday, when they travel to Albany to face the Sage Gators. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
