Huntingdon, Pa – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team were on the road for the regular season finale to take on no. 1 ranked Juniata College. The Cardinals fell to the Eagles in straight sets and move their record to 17-11.
Fisher grabbed the firs two points of the match with an error and a kill by
Kaylene Noble. Juniata rallied to jump in front but the Cardinals cut it off with kills by Noble and
Ana Gutman. The Eagle used a few different runs to grabbed a lead and despite points by
Reilly Morrow and
Olivia Nellis, the dropped the first set, 25-12. In the second set, Fisher used an early 4-0 run to even the score at 5-5. The two teams traded points until Juniata jumped in front 16-11. Fisher remained in the match, taking advantage of opposition errors and getting kills by
Delayne Young and Gutman to get within three points. However, the Eagles secured the second set 25-20. Juniata jumped ahead once again in the third set and a comeback by Fisher came up short and they dropped the final set, 25-16.
Noble recorded six kills and seven digs, while Young and Gutman contributed four kills each. Young also added eight digs.
Up next for Fisher is the Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament where the no. 1 seeded Cardinals await their semi-final opponent. They will play on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
