Cardinals Push Win Streak To Seven With Pair Of Wins

AUBURN, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team traveled to Wells College on Saturday for a tri-match against the Express and University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg. The Cardinals swept both opponents and move their win streak to seven games and their overall record to 11-8.
 
Fisher 3 – Greensburg 0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-17)
The first set had some back-and-forth to kick it off, but a 6-0 run helped give the Cardinals a 19-14 lead that they rode to an opening victory. In the second frame, it was Fisher that jumped ahead 10-3 thanks to Reilly Morrow Aces and kills by Delayne Young and Kaylene Noble. The runs continued for the team, and they took the 2-0 lead thanks to a 25-17 win of the second set. In the third and final frame, the Cardinals wasted little time taking control, jumping in front 12-1. They did not let the opposition back into the game and secured the 3-0 sweep.
 
Noble led the team with 14 kills on just 21 attacks. Young also finished with double-digit kills, collecting 10.
 
Fisher 3 – Wells 0 (25-12, 34-32, 25-12)
The matchup with the Express had two dominating sets by the Cardinals that were split by frame that had 66 combined points scored. The match began with the two units trading scores, but Fisher pulled away late including a 7-0 run. In the second frame, Fisher jumped in front 10-4, but six straight points by the Express got the right back into the match. Wells continued to fight, coming back from a 19-15 deficit to take a 24-23 lead. The teams began to trade points until the Cardinals recorded two kills by Noble and an ace by Morrow to secure the win. In the third and final frame, Fisher cruised to another set win thanks to another late 6-0 run.
 
Noble recorded her third 20-kill match of the season and has reached double-digit kills in the past nine games, and the Cardinals are 8-1 in that stretch. Young continued her strong day with 14 kills and 15 digs.
 
Up next for the Cardinals is a road conference battle. They travel to Russell Sage on Friday, oct. 13 for a 6 p.m. contest.
