ALBANY, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's volleyball team were on the road on Friday to face-off against Empire 8 Conference foe, Russell Sage College. The Cardinals walked away with a 3-0 sweep over the Gators to move their overall record to 12-8 and E8 mark to 4-0.
Kaylene Noble got the team off to a hot start with three kills to push them in front 5-1 in the first set. The team took advantage of opposition mistakes to create runs that extended the lead consistently throughout the frame, including a 5-0 run to make the score 23-12 and later secure it 25-15.
The second set was competitive, with the Gators jumping out to an early lead. The Cardinals fought back and the two teams began to trade points, with no one taking more then a three point lead until Fisher went in front 24-20. After winning the set, the Cardinals road the momentum into the third frame and jumped ahead 8-4. Sage fought back to get within two points, but attacking errors, along with points by
Adeline Phillips and
Ana Gutman, put the team in front 19-8. They proceeded to cruise to a 25-11 set and 3-0 match win.
Noble led the way with 10 kills, three service aces and nine digs.
Delayne Young was second on the team in scoring with eight kills and three block assists. The team capitalized on 31 errors by the Gators, while making just 13 of their own.
Fisher remains on the road on Saturday, Oct. 14 as they travel to Hartwick College for a 12 p.m. matchup with the Hawks.
